In-line centrifugal pumps have several advantages over submergible pumps:
If you used 10 feet of 1/2" pipe or tubing in the Cal S1200 you would have 13 ft of pump head from the water friction resistance in the pipe, which would only allow 540 gallons per hour or 9 gallons per minute; 20 feet would result in 300 GPH or 5 GPM. An inline pump like the Iron Might's 1/15 HP pump is the same price as the Cal S1200 at $169.00, yet it not only greatly out pumps it, but it only uses 1.3 amps instead of 3.3 amps, which is a 60% savings. It also features a 1-1/2" inlet/outlet for greater flow at less resistance. At 5' of pump head the Cal S1200 will pump 840 GPH, while the Iron Might will pump 2,500 GPH. At 11' the Cal does 600 GPH and the Iron Might does 1,900 GPH, and at a savings of 60% of the wattage cost.
